The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society

We affirm that the natural human family is established by the Creator and essential to good society. We address ourselves to all people of good will who, with the majority of the world’s people, value the natural family. Ideologies of statism, individualism and sexual revolution, today challenge the family’s very legitimacy as an institution. Associated with this challenge are the problems of divorce, devaluation of parenting, declining family time, morally relativistic public education, confusions over sexual identity, promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, poverty, human trafficking, violence against women, child abuse, isolation of the elderly, excessive taxation and below-replacement fertility. To defend the family and to guide public policy and cultural norms, this Declaration asserts principles that respect and uphold the vital roles that the family plays in society.

World Congress of Families

We assemble in this World Congress, from many national, ethnic, cultural, social and religious communities, to affirm that the natural human family is established by the Creator and essential to good society.

Heritage Foundation’s Family & Society Database

The Heritage Foundation’s Family & Society Database catalogs social science findings on the family gleaned from peer-reviewed journals, books, and government surveys. Serving legislators and staffers, journalists and writers, teachers and students, as well as clergymen and helping professionals, the Database makes social science research easily accessible to the non-specialist.

World Family Policy Center

During the past decade, the United Nations has assumed a major new role: that of international lawmaker. As the lawmaking function of the U.N. has increased in importance, ideological input to the U.N. System often has been limited to the voices of a few, powerful lobbies. Many of these lobbies, moreover, have been hostile to the traditional family, and religious and cultural values. As a result of the one-sided influence of these lobbies, the United Nations faces substantial pressure to adopt legal norms that pose serious threats to family stability, parental rights and religious liberty. There are, however, numerous nations and non-governmental voices throughout the world that will join a coalition to promote a positive, pro-family culture and counter the growing threats to religion and international family stability.

To provide balanced, pro-family input and effectively educate the United Nations System on moral, religious and other value-based issues, the J. Reuben Clark Law School and the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, in partnership with the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, have established The World Family Policy Center. The World Family Policy Center facilitates international policy debate by serving as an exchange point for the discussion and evaluation of emerging international legal norms and as an active participant in the examination of U.N. documents. The Center pursues these objectives by various means, including:

– consistent attendance and participation in major U.N. Conferences,

– cooperation with like-minded organizations, and

– sponsorship of significant world-wide conferences on family policy.

United Families International

United Families International seeks to strengthen the family by promoting the following: marriage between man and woman, founded on chastity before marriage and fidelity in marriage; the sanctity of human life including unborn children; the right and obligation of parents to love, protect, provide for, and teach their children; respect for laws, policies, programs, political structures, cultural norms, and religious values that preserve and protect the family; and compassion for the disadvantaged and distressed, including orphans and street children.
